PM-UNI: FPD Back Light
Uniformity Testing

Turnkey system for automated optical inspection of FPD Back Light Units

Back light units (BLUs) are often used to enhance the brightness of LCD FPD images. However, non-uniformity in the BLU can cause the FPD to exhibit unacceptable performance due to brightness non-uniformity and light leakage. Testing for these conditions by human eye or by using a spot measurement device is neither fast, accurate, nor efficient.

Illuminated Keyboard Testing

PM-UNI is a turn key system for automated optical inspection of BLUs

A member of Radiant Zemax' TrueTest™ family, the PM-UNI system combines application-specific software and a ProMetric® Imaging Colorimeter to perform rapid, automated inspection of FPD back lights for luminance uniformity and, if needed, chromaticity uniformity. By using the ProMetric system to "see" the entire BLU simultaneously, PM-UNI allows quick identification of non-uniformity in BLU light output. PM-UNI is optimized as a single purpose automated optical inspection system.

PM-UNI is faster, more repeatable and more consistent than other measurement methods

By using Radiant Zemax' ProMetric Imaging Colorimeters to capture data on BLU performance, measurement repeatability is achieved for each individual DUT (device under test). And because individual ProMetric systems are calibrated to a common standard for PM-UNI applications, the best line-to-line and location-to-location consistency is achieved.

PM-UNI is simple to use and flexible

The PM-UNI software allows you to set test parameters and pass/fail thresholds. Once these are set, access can be locked in a production line setting if there are human operators. In that case, the operator interface simply allows test initiation and reports
the outcome.

PM-UNI can be set to interface directly to a Production Control System for test initiation and reporting, and to Video Pattern Generators. Interfaces to bar code readers or the equivalent-to identify the product to be tested are also supported. PM-UNI can change test parameters and pass/fail criteria on the fly, depending on the BLU model
being tested.

PM-UNI software can be used with any of the Radiant Zemax ProMetric Imaging Colorimeters, so the measurement system configuration can be optimized for resolution, sensitivity and cost. It is also possible to adjust the test algorithms in PM-UNI to meet unique testing applications.

Supported by Radiant Zemax' global support structure

The PM-UNI system is supported by Radiant Zemax' global support organization and extensive distributor base. It is field-proven, having been used to test millions of BLUs.
