Historically, optical inspection has been performed by humans to check for defects and verify overall picture quality. By nature, human inspection is costly and results are not precise or repeatable. TrueTest systems are designed to measure and evaluate image quality with the same characteristics as a human eye, except the results are calibrated, accurate, and repeatable. However, until recently, digital testing systems could not duplicate human perception of overall image quality, known as mura.
